As the title suggests, I tried using AI to build myself a site. I hear a lot that AI is going to take our jobs. Simply put in the prompt “POOF,” and you have a “high-converting” website. I was intrigued by those claims being made online. If I could use AI to expedite the development of my client’s website, I'd be thrilled. Thus, I can focus on other aspects that would help them grow their business, their audience, and impact.

I should preface by saying I only used one tool: DIVI AI. Since DIVI is in my tool stack. I provided a simple prompt.

“Our company is a plumbing company. I want visitors to review my services and contact us. Apply best practices for service companies.”

Could I have gone into more detail about what I want the website to look like? Possibly.

The AI took about 5 mins to complete

This was the result.

I was not impressed by the design. I have to admit, I liked the services page. I will file that in the back of my mind for a future build.

The design was subpar.

Now let’s look at the copy.

I did not care about it at all. Service businesses are not exciting. I’ve designed and written for a few construction companies, and they are not the most exciting to write about, but there is still a story to be told. The AI-generated content was generic and bland, lacking personality.

Could another product render better results? Or, a more optimized prompt? Possibly. Do I want to spend hours figuring it out?

Not really. Maybe one day.

Right now, I prefer focusing on optimizing my client’s website for conversion.

I recently talked to a client of mine, and he is getting 65% conversion rate from his website. AI did not do that; a human did.
